COSHH REGULATIONS AND THE BOFA MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME - EXISTING INSTALLATIONS.
The COSHH Regulations, 2002 4th Edition Regulation 9 Item 1: states that all equipment provided to ensure the health and safety of employees must be maintained regularly.
Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems must be inspected and overhauled at least every fourteen months by competent engineers and Re- Certified to be in first class safe working condition. BOFA provides a Maintenance Program to ensure your company complies with the regulations and receives other warranty and discount benefits.
BOFA is committed to providing reliable, safe, simple to use, cost effective systems that meet and often exceed health and safety legislation worldwide. Our commitment extends to providing Comprehensive Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) testing to ensure compliance with the latest Health and Safety Executive COSHH regulations under HSG258 guidelines.
BOFA LEV examiners are (BOHS) P601 certified to ensure you receive the latest LEV testing methods and certification. Updates to our procedures ensure that we are at the cutting edge of legislation, testing and monitoring.
In order to comply with regulation 9/2a of the 2002 COSHH regs, you are required to have a Thorough Examination and Test of all LEV equipment at least every 14 months by a competent engineer. BOFA P601 certified engineers carry out this examination for you to ensure that you are up to date with legislation, and all your LEV equipment is effective at protecting your employees from the substances that are hazardous to their health.
The thorough examination and test checks the control effectiveness of your LEV systems. The test includes air flow and pressure measurements which are then compared to the commissioning report, issued when the equipment was installed. The control effectiveness will be demonstrated to the user by means of a smoke test or Tyndall lamp. A test label will be attached to each machine indicating the date of the test and the next test due date. A “Failed” label will be attached to any equipment which fails to meet the regulations, and use of the equipment should be ceased until a repair has been facilitated.
A test report is compiled for each LEV system. This will include the findings of the engineer, air flow measurements and condition of the examined components. Any recommendations by the engineer will be on the report along with filter condition and replacement record. Your LEV systems will need to be monitored regularly to make sure that they are working. The necessary information will be given to you when the engineer visits, on how to maintain your systems and the regular checks which you should be carrying out. All BOFA LEV systems are supplied with an installation/user manual and a log book, in which you can record your weekly observations. Upon Completion, a Certificate is issued which states that the equipment is suitable for the purpose of effectively controlling the hazardous material.
A COSHH Certificate will be issued on successful completion of the service. All test data will be stored at the BOFA head office for 5 years. ( As per COSHH forth edition 2002 regulation 9 page 47 item 4 ).
BOFA can test all makes of LEV equipment, these include: Hand soldering (tip and volume extraction), Fume cabinets, Re-flow ovens, Wave solder Ovens, Laser engraving and marking, Printing, Dust extraction, Milling, Routing, Nail polish application (beauty salons).
